Teangi Tea Tree

For a few years of Paige's school life (she may hate me for this) she was plagued by her friend's friends, not the friends you invite into your homes, but the unwelcome lodgers that decide to come home with you via a ride in your hair. Yes start to scratch as I am going to bug you with my head lice tales.

Conor never had any problems, Paige was about seven, I suppose I was lucky as this was a good age to be and she had avoided them. Her hair was long and luscious, we daily had it it in whatever style she loved, a bit up and a bit down, french plaits, tied up in rags to give lovely curls. Then came the bugs....eww i cringe just remembering them.

I decided straight way she was not going to have the chemical cure and prevention, I had previously seen a friends daughter have a full blown asthma attack and I did not want my children to have any side effects.
So I started the long laborious process of conditioner and nit comb. This process works however Paige would become reinfested by the friends who'sMum's did not get rid of all the nasties. So it became a real pain!

Then googling for natural cures, I stumbled on Tea Tree being a prevention, so I bought a bottle of shampoo and conditioner with a high concentrate of Tea Tree oil and tried it. It worked. No more combing,no late nights keeping Paige up to rid her of the pests, no more scratching, just a weekly wash of shampoo on a Sunday night and Paige never had head lice again.

The brand I used was  Tisserand, who sadly do not make this any more, they have a shampoo but is mixed with other herbs.

So I give you Teangi.

As a stand alone healthy hair and scalp range its great. But as a preventative for head lice it works. Having given it to my friend who has reported three weeks clear, I am pleased there is still a cure out there.

Tea Tree has long been recognised as a major bathroom essential and the newly renamed Teangi range from LanesHealth is the perfect solution to many irritating conditions.

With the worries of itchy flaky scalps, lice, nappy rash, cuts, and insect bites affecting most parents with young children at some point, the TeangiTea Tree range is an effective, soothing solution.

The Tea Tree shrub is native to a small region in northern New South Wales Australia and the oil is recognised as a powerful healing ingredient around the world. It has several well-established properties that provide the basis for its special soothing effects: natural antibacterial, natural antiseptic, anti-fungal and insect repellent.

Teangi is an ancient aboriginal name meaning ‘earth’. Aboriginals believed that the association of every living thing is not just an idea but a way of life. LanesHealth have chosen the name Teangi – pronounced Tea-angi - to accentuate the sacred, elemental source of Tea Tree’s healing power.

Today, the Teangi range offers nature’s power for the bathroom. Free from parabens, artificial colours and fragrances, Teangi is a range of essential products:

  • Teangi Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Cream to effectively treat and relieve stings, cuts, minor burns, nappy rash and other minor skin conditions;
  • Teangi Tea Tree Oil 100% pure pharmaceutical grade Tea Tree oil;
  • Teangi Tea Tree Shampoo a paraben-free medicated and PH balanced formula, with natural anti-tangling ingredients to make combing easier. Helps keep the scalp clean and healthy and free from dandruff;
  • Tea Tree Conditioner a paraben-free, SLES-free nourishing leave-in treatment to keep hair perfectly hydrated, moisturised and shiny.
So whatever your need, Teangi is a natural, essential collection for the whole family from head to toe.  Jon Groves, Spokesperson for LanesHealth says that, “The new design and brand name bring a contemporary feel to  the range, whilst continuing to focus on the beneficial natural healing qualities that tea tree is known for, and which make it the perfect solution for all families.”

THE KEY TO MARATHON SUCCESS MIND BODY MILEAGE

This April 22 more than 35,000 people will take to the roads of the capital to run The 32nd London Marathon. Well I am way fitter than I was but I don't think I will be doing much other than supporting from home.

My hair however has benefited from the luxury shampoo and conditioner that is recommended below to keep runners locks in good condition after running in all kinds of weather.

I happen to love lavender which is handy as I got a pure burst of it as I washed my hair, the shampoo is full of other goodies like honey, aloe and lemon all designed to detox and pamper my hair.
After use while wet, my hair felt really clean and lighter.
When dried it was definitely more shiny and feels sleek.

I may not be running a marathon but I will be running to the bathroom to use these again.

As you have heard many times before, ‘fail to plan, plan to fail’; not quite the mantra that will get you through that agonising yet elating 26.2 miles to that finish line, so what is the key to marathon success?

It’s all in the ‘mind, body and mileage’:

MIND

What is your mantra? Come up with something short and snappy with a rhythm that matches your stride, repeat it and gain confidence and strength as you run the words with each strike of the pavement
Edinburgh Marathoner, Victoria Newlands, 26, said,
“My mantra was short and to the point ‘fit and strong’, I must have chanted it a million times throughout my training but it really helped come race day, especially for my final eight miles in to the weather warning wind, where I was having to run pretty much horizontally to the pavement!”

Body: First time or well seasoned marathoner, your body will really be put through its paces over the 16 weeks of training, let alone on race day itself! This includes your hair, lips and skin; so don’t let your beauty regime suffer, it’s all about balance! - Those race day photographers will be out in force so ensure you look your most fit and beautiful when showing your snaps off to friends and family with these essentials:

Get the Twilight look with Tesco Twilight Tongs Review

Twilight broke onto the cinema screens on Friday, Conor went to see it on opening night, we are very jealous, he has been gagged so he doesn't ruin it for Paige or I, he's desperate to tell us though.

He was allowed to say that though he liked it but the books are more geared to males as well as females, but the last film will appeal to the ladies more! Woohoo!

We're all fans and I love all the girly merchandise that comes out with these films.
Tesco's have really gone to town and produced a fab range of Twilight themed hair styling appliances. Hairdryer, straighteners, mini ones too and lastly tongs, we were sent the Twilight Sparkle Tong

I only got to try them twice before Paige squirreled them in her room, they
The are very attractive in appearance the purple handle will appeal to young girls everywhere, its comfortable to hold for lengthy styling sessions especially if like me you have long hair. It heats up incredibly fast.
It has a tourmaline ceramic barrel, this means frizz free hair, as my hair is fine this really is essential, I also use a little hairspray to keep hair in check and make more defined curls.
You can either wind your hair around the barrel or use as normal tongs. The tip stays cool so it is easier to use as a wrap around.

The curls achieved are great, and combined with young girls wanting curls like Bella, I reckon this will be a fab Christmas present.

As this week sees the beginning of the end for the Twilight series, fans can prepare for Breaking Dawn Part One by creating their own ‘Twilight’ look with a range of hair stylers that were used in the film, all available from Tesco.

Get Bella Swan’s waves with Twilight Tongs or Alice Cullen’s poker straight style with the Twilight Straighteners, which also come in a convenient mini version if you’re travelling to see the penultimate part of the Twilight series.

Twilight ‘Sparkle’ Hairdryer, £24.97

Twilight ‘Sparkle’ Straighteners, £29.97

Twilight ‘Sparkle’ Mini Detailer, £19.97

Twilight ‘Sparkle’ Tong, £24.97

Enrapture Encode Totem Styler Review

I recently had the  pleasure to review the Enrapture Amplify Jumbo waver, my hair has been beach babe tresses, during the Indian summer, digging out the summer dresses and having wavy hair was a great look.

You can read my review just here,  http://given-to-distracting-others.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/enrapture-amplify-jumbo-waver-review.html  its amazing, creates a fabulous look. I was impressed and when Enrapture asked me if I would try the Encode Totem Styler, I was not really expecting to be wowed like I was with the Amplify Jumbo Waver. Curling tongs are nearly as old as electricity.  But impressed by the Waver  and how unique it was in design and usage I also had higher hopes for at the styler being at least great to use.

I had a quick read and  this time the look created would be ringlets, Bohemian curls and soft waves,so with the Christmas party season coming up I expected this to be of great value. For more stylised curls.

Again like the Amplify Jumbo waver what's lovely is the styler came in a really fabulous shiny purple box. It opens like a gift box, really looks nice to store the styler in, when not in use. It also has a pouch to store the styler and  act as a heat resistant mat. I found I was able to put it away straight after use. Most tong/straightener users will know how invaluable this is for safety against scorch marks on the dressing table.

Now the Encode title did not really register until I sat down with the wand in my hand. It has three codes 1-2-3 and you can use 1 for loose curls, 2 for medium, and yes you guessed 3 for tight curls.

Now this becomes even more fun when you can actually turn the settings to a 123 combo, or a 113 for example (113 is a Glamour curl)

When Chris my husband goes into the salon and asks for a number 2 on the sides and a 4 on top, I do get to wishing styling for me was as easy, maybe when it comes to curls it will be.

The styler also has a small flipper, no not that little marine film star, its the part that  holds the hair in place. I found I used this the most, you can wind segments of hair around the barrel, but I found I had good results with the flipper.

The best way to show you my pics is to use my glamorous assistant Paige who felt full of cold, not being really up for a pampering session, I promised I just wanted to do a couple of curls, just to try it out. Paige has very long straight hair and being fine not the greatest hair model for curling appliances, so this would be a good test for the styler.

Heating up was ultra fast within seconds it was ready. It has a great little stand on the handle so easy to rest between applying. The cord is a huge 3 metres long, it is obvious this works where power sockets are ill placed, but also a boon if you want to wander and reach for your cuppa, or answer the phone, while still styling.

I found it so great to use, its been a while since I last used tongs and I was amazed by how well the tongs curled her hair. Paige was so pleased with the speed, she agreed to me doing more.
As you can see the 111 setting gives a lovely loose romantic style curl.

I whipped around her hair with speed, I found it easy to handle, light to hold and a breeze to use. The result was a shoulderful of curls in a few minutes, a happy Paige and an impressed reviewer.

Bear in mind my poorly model was burning up with a fever as she posed but actually felt cheered up with her waves.

Enrapture are so confident you will love the Encode Totem Styler like I do that if you are not completely satisfied, you can simply return it to the retailer within 30 days for a full refund. Terms and conditions apply.

Denise McAdam Haircare Review - PROFESSIONAL HAIRCARE WITHOUT THE ROYAL PRICE TAG

I love a good hair product, I  sat  and talked for about an hour with the manager of a salon as she finished my hair raving about our latest loves in the hair world.
The big names were up there Kerastase, Paul Mitchell, TIGI, but I wish I'd told her about the range from Denise McAdam which is in Tesco exclusively.

I've been reviewing a selection of the products  including some for coloured hair, having my hair done was good timing, I was able to see how they measured up to some of my usuall colour care products, risky you might think trialling a  new set of products on my beloved highlights.

However I was pretty confident when I read Denise McAdam was at the wedding of Kate and William yes the that Kate and Prince William. Denise has been hairdresser to the Royal family for 30 years! Not only that she was the hairdresser for Sarah Ferguson when she married Prince Andrew.
Denise has the proud honour of being awarded the coveted Royal Warrant as well.
So I can safely say my hair was being handed over to a quality set of products.

After almost 10 years since it was first on the shelves, the revamped Denise McAdam hair care range is back with six collections – Fight The Frizz, Colour Protect, Full Volume, Blonde Enhancing, Brunette Super Shine and Moisture Master
First up Moisture Master which is an intensive moisture masque, now if you saw on Twitter the reason I had the manager finishing my hair was that the stylist who started my hair was taken ill, half a head of colour not bad but some of it bleach.
It was saved but as a result some sections are very dry and need that little extra.  The Moisture master is superb, it spreads on easily, gets left on for 2-3 minutes. Just time for me to brush my teeth, then rinses off as effortlessly as it goes on. Its a lovely smell and leaves my hair lightweight despite most masques making my hair heavy and a little greasy.

I have used a couple of times a week not sure if its too much, but my hair doesn't seem to be complaining. It feels good on the ends and feel much less dry.

The Fight The Frizz Smoothing Serum, is another lovely product it not only works as all serums but locks in the colour and seals it. Denise recommends using for at least 3 weeks after your hair is done to gain optimum colour protection.  I find that my hair laps it up, I have used on dry hair in the middle of the day, although its for towel dried hair firstly. I used 5 drops on dry, probably less on my damp hair as it spreads more easily.
As an added bonus it makes my hands feel soft too.

My next product to try was the Pro Colour Conditioner.
Its got a gorgeous scent and made my hair smell fabulous, I found that my colour has been good since using but it did not quite keep my hair silky and nourished as I am used to. Now luckily I have the masque but between times I found my hair was a little dry.

Finally  I used the Moisture Master Heat Protection Spray, a lovely light spray again a lovely scent and worked well to keep my hair smooth and stopped it from being dry. Its a lovely big bottle, so will last a long time.

All in all I am very impressed with the range, my hair is still looking good colour wise and soft and protected due to the Moisture Master range.

Denise says; “Just because I work with high profile names doesn’t mean that quality hair care should come with a Hollywood price tag! The ethos for this range has always been about the best hair care at affordable prices and we have continued to embrace this for the relaunch. The formulations in the range contain quality ingredients that have been scientifically formulated to help women get the best from their hair. ”
The quality formulations combine Denise’s styling experience with scientific research to address the ever changing needs of modern women’s hair to achieve maximum benefits

The 18 products in the range are stocked exclusively in Tesco

Denise McAdam Hair Care collections (£3.50 - £3.80) are stocked exclusively in Tesco stores
