Norfolk Road Trip Challenge

Well another blogger challenge and one that is right up my street or should I say 'road' 

Money Supermarket challenged me to go on a great road trip somewhere relatively local to where I live?

We live in East Anglia and its pretty easy to find some great spots to visit. My favourite people to accompany me on my trip have to be Chris,Paige and Conor.

I am a real lover of being by water so a day out is usually to a lake riverside or the sea.

Our favourite seaside haunt is  Wells-Next-The Sea and Holkham.Wells is  a small fishing town on the Norfolk coast. We head out really early as the road can get very busy and we also like to pack a whole day in,stopping on the way for a drink and nosy round.

Once off the  A47at Kings Lynn, we are onto the Cromer road (A148),a lot of people head for Cromer and onto Great Yarmouth but we are going for a place that is quaint, still feels like a vintage seaside place, yet has had a big regeneration in the last year,I'm secretly hoping not too many people find it!!

On our way we pass by cute cobbled stone covered cottages and pubs and past the gates to the back of Sandringham,the queen knows well the beauty of this area. 

We finally reach the turn off for Wells, it passes by the place that is pilgrimage to many people Walsingham, now I must admit to not knowing much more than way back in the 11th century a lady had a vision where she saw Nazareth and was asked to build a replica.Walsinghamis still known as  Englands Nazareth.

I'm not sure what you believe, for some the shrine will be a place to pray and meditate, but whatever you think, the village itself is just so pretty, the cottages worth a look at.  

Finally we arrive we always are torn whether to stop in the town and get the little railway up to the beach,or walk the top of the harbour,it varies depending on weather and tired legs.

Once at the beach its just a sight to see, the skies seems to go on forever here too, the sea comes in and leaves a channel of water not very deep and is where Paige learnt to swim,which makes it her favourite local beach also.

The beach has many unusual features,sand dunes are common to a lot of beaches, however here there are long wide channels of sand with dunes on either side you can climb great mountainous flat sand banks and sit and look down on the sea. 

The water comes around both sides (making the safe swimming channel) the flat banks  make for fab sliding games. To the left of the picture above is Holkham Nature reserve.

  The reserve is usually our first port of call,  now this is not some yawn making place, again there are huge dunes set in a woodland of trees, its a fab place to get out of the sun or rain as is sometimes the case. The start of Wells beach and reserve has cute little beach huts, and as  you climb the views out to the sea are cool.Its a long way off and we know that by evening it will be all the way into to the harbour where we will be crabbing!

But first we have to hunt out the butterflies strange shape trees to climb and the all important rope swings! 

The rope swings, I think local children dot them around, they are serious fun and we all spend quite a while here.

After a walk continuing up through the woods you reach Holkham Beach looking back to Wells you can make out the channel and beach dune now!  Its famous as the beach Gwyneth Paltrow walked on in Shakespeare in Love and apparently its a naturist beach,but we have never seen any hairy butts so all good!

Time to head into the town to grab fish and chips at Plattens (our favorite and  just been finallists in the Fish and Chip Quality awards. They are seriously good here.Locally caught and fresh from the fishing boats. 

Then its time to hit the penny arcades and then a spot of crabbing.

Finally we head  off home, we usually go the long way back through Hunstanton and via the front of the Sandringham estate. Time for a snooze in the back!

My Ultimate Summer Driving Playlist

10) Waterboys Whole of The Moon - Its a song that is special to Chris and I,my maiden name being Mooney and we met and it was one of the songs on the jukebox,so always on in the car.

There is a serious message behind the idea of a great driving soundtrack. THINK! research suggests that almost 20% of accidents on major roads are sleep or tiredness related. Long journeys on motorways can lead to a lack of concentration and, as well as other preventative measures, listening to songs you love can be a great way to stay alert and focused on the road.

e-cloth e-auto Review

Chris has a new car, its replaced me for a bit, not in his love of course but the adoring long gazes are definitely redirected.

Oh it won't last, its a fling and I have no jealous feelings. He spends time reading all the pamphlets, looking out the window at it and most amazingly cleaning it all the time. 

His work takes him to dusty and muddy environments, with the previous, he would clean it and it could look just as bad the day after, so it . However the new baby is getting tip top treatment, so when e-cloths asked me to review some of the new e-auto car care range, I said No, but I know a man who can.

We were sent the Dual Action sponge and the Glass and Chrome cloth.

 They mimic the same revolutionary cleaning technology as e-cloth,  we read the new e-auto range eliminates tough dirt, grease and bacteria in three quick and easy steps; wet, wipe and dry using nothing but water.

The above is a days dirt, and so Chris got to work with the sponge, he loved the large size of it, we now have a large car and it was a good size for cutting down time cleaning.Within minutes the cloth was washing away grime without our usual car products.

The grey side is textured so it really gets the stuck on dirt and bugs. 

As you can see the car is shiny and cleaned well all with water and the sponge. We were both impressed.

The Glass and Chrome cloth was a lot more hard work, it did give a shine but we found that if you try to clean a whole window it just smeared as the water had dried, it took a long while in comparison to our usual cream shine. Our tip is to do a section at a time, but would have liked to had the wow factor with all other e-cloth products I and now Chris has used.  Perhaps there is a knack to using it, but we could not work one out.

So a massive thumbs up for the  Dual Action Sponge, it made light work of grime and stuck on dirt, its large and easily cleans without water.
The glass and chrome cloth not so easy but it was without any cleaning products so in that respect it was good.

Avoid a car insurance claim - top tips for looking after your motor

Adequate car insurance gives you peace of mind – it means that if the worst happens your liabilities are covered. But the chances of avoiding a claim on your insurance – and thereby preserving your no claim discount – can be greatly increased by taking a few simple measures that help to protect both you and your car.

Be a safe driver

Watching your speed and adjusting your driving to the weather and road conditions, will help to make your journey a safe one.

Always stay within the speed limit – it’s a legal requirement, and for a good reason: speeding is responsible for 13% of all road accidents where somebody is hurt.

When it comes to alcohol, the easiest way to make sure you stay within the legal limit is to avoid it altogether, if you’re going to be driving. Also be very wary of driving the morning after a night out – allow enough time for all the alcohol to work its way out of your system before taking the wheel.

If you’re a new driver, you can help cut the risk of being involved in an accident by taking further instruction. Consider completing a course like ‘Pass Plus’ – it might also help lower your car insurance premium.

Protect your car from theft and damage by parking it in a busy, well lit area. Don’t leave anything valuable on display – most thieves are opportunists.

Consider fitting anti-theft equipment and maybe even a tracking device in case the worst happens and your vehicle is stolen.

Increasing your car security will help deter thieves and, again, could lower the cost of your car insurance at the same time.

Look after your car

Don’t wait until your car’s next MOT to fix faults. Defects can cause accidents and, ultimately, risk lives.

Keep tyres properly inflated and check the tread regularly for wear. Monitor oil, coolant and other fluid levels, replenishing when necessary.

A dirty windscreen restricts your vision, particularly at night when car headlights can dazzle. Don’t let windscreen wash run dry, and always make sure you clean the inside of the windscreen as well as the outside. Wiper blades should be replaced as soon as they show signs of wear.

A well-serviced and maintained car should be safer and should last you longer, saving you money in the long run.

Get covered

A great way to protect your car is to make sure your insurance provides adequate cover. Not all car insurance policies are equal, so always read the small print to ensure that you have the best cover for your needs.

We are just back from a fabulous week away driving around the Wye Valley and taking in some high and winding roads in the Brecon Beacons, made that bit wilder with sheep and Welsh ponies crossing at any given moment.
However I think this pales into the background when you watch this video.



Red Bull Racing driver Neel Jani took the high road, quite literally, when he drove the Red Bull Racing Formula One show car along the 18,380ft-high Khardung La pass in the Ladakh region of India.

Neel Jani drove the F1 Showcar on the world’s highest driveable road, the Khardung-La pass in the Leh region of India at a height of 18,380 feet past the famous Thiksey Monastery, stopped by the Shanti Stupa and encountered the famous rolling roads of South Pullu.

This makes Red Bull Racing the first Formula One team to have ever managed to transport, fire-up and drive an F1 car on what is arguably the most challenging terrain on the planet.

This weekend a strange occurrence, Chris did not have a £10 valet outside our local Homebase, he decided to use Mantis Instant Shine and cloths pack we were sent, I was all set to use it and he nabbed the bottle and was gone.
 Chris is a manager at a crane hire company, he often has to visit sites local to his business and also quarries and as a result our car is really like the before and after of new products being promoted.


It can be cleaned on a Sunday and by Monday is dusty, and dull and you wonder why you bothered.
Now here are some 'before' cleaning pics.

Its just a case of wiping on and lifting the dirt, dust and general grime.  

Paige and I stood in the kitchen watching Chris work and I was very amazed at the high glossy shine appearing. Chris was using the  Mantis Buffing Towel  which brought the paintwork to a really high shine. The buff cloth was as impressive as the spray. One thing that is not mentioned in the Mantis info is just how good it is on cleaning the windscreen and windows. They sparkle.

He found after spraying on that the Mantis shine lots was left, so its pretty economical, he had used very little.

Now when I think of Gucci I think of sumptuous and iconic Italian leather  handbags and shoes after all its the biggest Italian selling brand, but I also know that designers are spreading their genious to all manner of product design.

The Fiat 500 by Gucci has been  reimagined from the former Fiat name to  celebrate both the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy and Gucci's 90th anniversary. It was launched on the opening day of the Milan Fashion week and that really says it all, this is designed as the ultimate fashionista's accessory.  and it seems that Gucci can turn their design genious to metal as well as leather.

It may not fit on my arm but I would very much like one. 

Looking at what they have done, it seems Gucci can turn their design expertise to metal as well as leather.  The interior really appeals to me classic Italian Job" style with cool sports seats and the   gucci style logo and red green colours. Its a car to feel good in, I could see myself racing around Italian countryside roads to meet my lover at a little cafe high in the Italian hills.

I particularly like the black version, the high gloss finish and the chrome details on hubs and wing mirrors.

 I went to look it up and Gucci have as one would expect aunched accessories to complement the cars, these include travel goods , sunglasses and even clothes.

KIA VENGA a stylish start to the new school term

How excited were we, when we were asked to review a car, not only that but the new Kia Venga, not only that but at the start of the new school term also? 

Chris had the honours for  driver, the children and I the features and passengers reviews, this suited well as Chris is a complete petrol head, he talks cars all the time, on a journey anywhere he points out new models, he can even tell a car from the wing mirror alone. 

He drives all day with his job and absolutely loves it still. So with these credentials we feel we know our onions I mean cars pretty well.

The children were excited as this meant lifts to school in order to review their ride. So all in all the first week back to the grindstone for us was eased very nicely.

The car arrived last Monday and my first thoughts echoed by each family member was its so much bigger than I thought.We were reviewing the Kia Venga 1.4 petrol version.

We all had a feeling of space and enjoyed that, Chris is tall and found enough leg room without putting his seat back so that the children felt cramped.

Width wise in the back the Venga accommodates three children comfortably, even with a booster seat.

Split rear seats meant they could move the seats back too. Paige and Conor gave this as one of their top benefits. It gave a sense of being as important as the adults in the front.

They actually probably slide to allow extra room when luggage space is at a premium, but we left the kids with their feelings of VIP passengers intact!

If that’s not enough the rear seats fold into the floor to give a van-like load deck.

I loved the boot, I get pretty irate lifting shopping out of the deep boot in my car on a weekly basis, just coming back from holiday we would have been happy with the Kia's innovative high level floor with no boot lip which means heavy items eg buggies can slide straight out, no stooping.

The two tier shelf appealed with a second shelf complete with tray and net, perfect to stop the shopping rolling about.

Paige above modelling the badminton racquet's and showing the ample room in the boot, under this top tier were four picnic chairs two blankets and a bottle of lemonade and you can see  there was still vast amount of room.

Over to the driver Chris for his verdict

The car is quiet and copes well around town, also at motorway speeds, however don't expect lightening performance as gear changes are required for that A-road overtaking manoeuvre.

 This is balanced well though by the good economy and tax saving emissions, good for the planet and

pocket.

Equipment levels are generous and our car even had an iPod cable included so we could make the most of the quality sound system fitted.

Another great touch for the driver is the footrest next to the clutch, which made long distance journeys especially comfortable.

 

Parking is a doddle with large mirrors and a compact overall length, making light work of tight supermarket spaces, although the steep rake of the bonnet can leave you guessing how close that car in front is.

The high driving position and a large glass area make for superb visibility, both contribute to a light, airy cabin.

Road noise is kept to a minimum and light steering means this is an ideal town car.

The front armrest and easy to reach controls are something you would expect from a more expensive brand, it is a reassuring reminder that Kia have done their homework with this car.

Overall quality and value with a superb seven year warranty, fixed low cost servicing, free road tax on the diesel version, all mean this car should be considered a serious contender when the time comes to change your old car.
