Stylfile Nipper Clipper

Hot foot from the review of the Stylfile S-Ped (read my review here) for gruesome feet ( I refer to mine of course, not inferring anything  about my readers digits) I am now moving on to cute chubby toes and fingers of babies, or more specifically their nails!

Tom Pellereau has 'nailed' it again with his latest invention. A nail clipper for babies, this man is so clever!

I used to sweat over cutting my twins nails, it was often a case of either biting their nails off as I was too scared of  snipping off any skin or flesh.

My blog may be named Given To Distracting Others but I never managed the art of distracting my two into sitting still and me cutting their nails  I usually just firmly held them and cut a few at a time until they wriggled too much.

Tom has come up with a great design, the Nipper Clipper has a peephole at the end of the top clipper, so you can see the finger and avoid it, just going for the nail. I used scissors which was a pain, but I could see more where I was going, I wouldn't have dared use clippers.

Also he  has provided a baby file, I would never have got this far in the process, a couple of nails and Conor especially would be threatening a super explosion of tears and wails.

To further make this a pleasant experience for baby and parent, Tom has avoided this parental drama is by a distraction app of Timmy Tickle.

Very very clever.

Trimming babies' nails is a universal problem and a daily struggle for parents but Stylfile's new product has entered the market to provide a much-needed solution. The new Nipper Clipper is the world's first baby nail clipper with a safety spy hole, baby nail file and distraction app that allows parents to trim nails safely and correctly. The innovative safety spy hole allows parents to see exactly what they are doing, while using a clipper that is sharp enough to trim and cut nails.

Cutting babies nails is often a daunting and traumatic experience which can result in injuries to both baby and parent. The scissor like action of the Nipper Clipper is smooth, sharp and almost silent, the baby file softens sharp edges, and the unique spy hole means painful accidents will be a thing of the past.

As any parent will know, keeping babies still whilst cutting their nails is a struggle. Stylfile has teamed up with a children's app developer and an Education and Child Psychologist to combat this, through creation of the first nail clipper distraction app, Timmy Tickle-Baby.

Timmy Tickle-Baby is a distraction app designed to take babies attention away from the routine and unpleasant task of nail clipping by using a fun, colourful and animated octopus called Timmy. The app has three different control options that are designed to suit babies of different ages so the experience can adapt as they grow.  Newborn babies will enjoy the Auto Control, which shows animations of Timmy pretending to be different fruit and characters, and as children start to speak Sound Control is designed to engage them as they make sounds of their own. Finally the Voice Control setting is designed to recognise the parent's voice to create a reaction on screen and encourages children to copy the sounds themselves.

By adding three original elements to the standard nail clipper; the spy hole, the baby file and the Timmy Tickle Baby distraction app, the all new Nipper Clipper allows parents to trim and cut their babies' nails in a safe and fun way and prevents nail clipping being a stressful and much dreaded task.

Tom Pellereau Quotes:
‘As a new Dad, I am very excited to have created the new Nipper Clipper as I think there is a real gap in the market for a nail clipper that can cut babies' nails in a safe and controlled manner. By combining our original spy hole feature, baby nail file and distraction app together we think the Nipper Clipper will take out the stress out of cutting your babies nails and make it a fun and easy experience.”

The ‘Nipper Clipper’ will be available for RRP £9.99 in:
-       Sainsburys ( from June)
-       Amazon ( from June)
-       Mothercare (from August)
-       Boots (from October)

Stylfile S-Ped Review

Feet, I actually have a love hate relationship with mine, I am not so good to them, I often neglect them, made worse by the fact I am more often than not barefoot, as soon as its acceptable to bare feet, my collection of open shoes get an airing, my Granny keeps saying "Put something on your feet, you make me cold!" she said my dad hated shoes and was often barefoot.

You would think exposing my feet a lot of the year means I spend more time caring, and pampering my feet. This is not the case, I garden in bare feet, often step outside to pop something in the bin, with nothing on. (Shoes that is in case you decided to alert the police!!)

Yes,my poor tootsies  get overlooked. I do have sessions were I decide to get them sorted. I buy exfoliators, foot buffing creams, have tried pumice stones, battery operated pedicure sets but I get fed up, they are messy and that is the one reason I stop.

One thing that gets to me,(sorry if you are just tucking into a meal when reading this is, I will try to be discreet) is the debris from removal of hard skin. I hate the clean up after, its not pleasant and does not fit with my idea of pampering. My own feet put me off, other peoples more so!

So for me being offered the S-Ped was attractive as it has a collection case for all those little leftovers, I would not have to really look at the mess.

I know all you beauty goddesses really need to know if it works well, so yes it does. My feet had gone my usual few weeks being ignored and the first application of the S-Ped was brilliant. The curve and shape really make the difference, its easy to use, fits comfortably into my hand due to ergonomic  S- shaped design, moving over the whole length of my foot.

You use the metal microfile first, commonly known as a cheese grater in my boudoir! Apologies I will go back to making this review easier on the stomach!

This really gets to grips with the lumps and bumps of  life's trials on your feet. It is painless, fast and gives a really good start to the process. Then without looking at the contents in the case, I flipped over the file to the foot polishing file.

Again the shape allowed me to gently buff up my feet, the S- curve  makes this a 'walk in the park,' hoping you appreciate the pun!

Then with closed eyes its easy to rid yourself of the contents of the case. The case can be rinsed clean and the file wiped over ready for next time.

Now as many of you know I am at present left handed due to a fight with a soft mattress which broke my finger. Hence this review has been a little late. I am getting quite nifty using my left hand, some things defeat me,but the S- Ped was easy to use with my weakest hand.

Believe me, trying to be beautiful with one hand is no mean feat, but I was left with no mean feet!!

Apologies if you wanted pictures but my feet offend me even perfectly polished so I refuse to put them on a post I may have to look at again!

Best-selling beauty brand Stylfile is launching its latest grooming innovation S-Ped nationwide this May to help get feet beach ready. Drawing inspiration from Stylfile's iconic S-shaped nail files, the curved S-Ped has been designed by former Apprentice winner Tom Pellereau to follow the foot's natural contours.

The curved body of the S-Ped maximises contact between the sole and long-lasting stainless steel micro files - resulting in the efficient yet gentle removal of hard, unwanted skin.

Each  S-Ped also includes an interchangeable S-file X exfoliator, which allows the handle to be easily converted into a gentle foot polisher. With two differing abrasive surfaces, the S-file X ensures feet are perfectly smooth.

The S-Ped is the 7th product in theStylfile range which currently consists of the  S-file, S-buffer, Emergency File Xtra, S-Clipper, S-Clipper Mini and Nailcare  Collection  gift

World Gin Day with Bulldog Gin

The 15th June marks the 5th annual return of ‘World Gin Day’. What began as a celebration between a few friends has quickly become a world wide event. I for one am gutted I missed the last 4 years!!

I adore gin,my friend once remarked its an old lady's drink,I replied I must be an old lady as I love it.

I totally disagree, the fresh  citrus flavours and dry crisp taste is for anybody.

As a review blogger, I have been privileged to try many seriously good brands and I feel a bit of a mini expert now!

Cutlass supplied with a gift pack to have my own celebration  it included
Bulldog Gin and they sent me the lime, and tonic and a few other tots from the range.

I will be raising a glass to gin lovers everywhere on Saturday.

Do you like Gin, maybe I am alone, maybe I am an old lady......

Saucy Fish Company Ready To Enjoy Salmon Fillets

The Saucy Fish Co has recently launched its Ready to Enjoy range of Salmon fillets. The fillets are available in four fabulous flavours and can be served straight from the pack or heated up.

The four flavours are - Roasted Sweet Chilli Salmon with Tomato and Chilli Chutney, Smoked Salmon with Sticky Maple Dressing, Roasted Lemon and Herb Salmon with Sicilian Lemon and Dill Mayonnaise and Steamed Salmon with Lime and Coriander Dressing.

I was sent the fishy foursome to try and Chris in particular was very happy,he would eat fish every day. I am an occasional fish eater. But even I was tempted by the look and description of the packs.

The fish is ready to eat and I think salads and summer dishes will be livened up by the flavours.

However summer was well and truly hiding when I received, so I made a hot dish. I used the Smoked Salmon with Sticky Maple Dressing and with some roasted new potatoes and a light salad,it was not only easy but incredibly tasty. The fish is just so succulent, packed with flavour and fresh tasting.

The fish come in fab packs, perfectly sealed for freshness and retain the shape really well as the seal fits the fish tightly. Great for presentation purposes.

The actual fillets are easily flaked or left whole, trying them hot and cold proved both ways to be excellent, the fish is fresh, juicy, moist and the addition or the sauces just add a lovely different flavour.

My favourite was, if you are a regular reader the citrus one. Lime and Coriander is a perfect accompaniment to salmon, well for me anything savoury. I served on noodles with stir fried carrot, mushrooms and courgettes lightly spiced with garlic and soy. I am sorry there is not a picture as the meal looked so good, sadly my camera work is a bit lacking now I have broken my finger.

Chris adored the Dill Mayonnaise, this variety is perfect with a salad for a weekend lunch for us.

All in all I'm very impressed, as an occasional fish eater, the packs would be ones I pick up for Chris more regularly just for the sheer ease and variety of flavours to feed his fishy love! Plus I enjoyed them, so as its just so good to eat fish, for health too, I will probably join him more.

Asda Fathers Day Review

I am continually impressed with the range of products that Asda launch for special days and events. Valentines Day,Pancake Day, Valentine's day have all been covered by me this year.

Asda kindly sent me some fab goodies for Chris and I know for a fact he will be so touched by the Fathers Day treats which just arrived. He adores ale and his sweet tooth will be satisfied all round,as the fudge is coated in dark chocolate,so he will have peace as we love milk chocolate.

A nice Whitechapel Porter Ale from the Asda Extra Special range will be a perfect way to end his special day. He is a mad keen ale drinker and spends a great deal of time perusing the Asda beer aisle when we shop. This bottle is a great price at £1.79 and the offer at the moment is 3 for £5
The ale can be served in the No 1 Best Ever Dad and he certainly is.

Paige is off to Asda to buy more after looking at the list of other goodies. I have just made her promise not to buy the Super Dad Onsie (£18) not because of the amount, just because Chris would live in it,answer the door and shame her!!

What is so great is there really is something to suit all pockets and all pocket money budgets, the I love Dad Mug is a £1, the NSPA Grooming range starting at £2. Yummy chocolate and Cocolate Ale Fudge £1 and wrapping it all up starts at 94p for a roll.

Asda sent me the products to review, my opinions are my own.

NIVEA SUN AND CANCER RESEARCH UK TOP TIPS FOR SAFE SUMMER FUN IN THE SUN

The sun is shining after so much rain, I swear its because my new turf went down, but I cannot moan, its been a dire spring, last year was, well forgettable indeed.

I just had an email from Cancer Research UK and Nivea Sun and its reminded me I haven't any sunscreen, I and Granny will finally be able to sit outside,so I must sort this out!

Here are some great tips to take care of your lovely skin, have a great summer.

NIVEA SUN AND CANCER RESEARCH UK
TOP TIPS FOR SAFE SUMMER FUN IN THE SUN

After the washout summer last year, the nation is looking forward to the sun making an appearance in 2013. Cancer Research UK and NIVEA SUN have joined forces to encourage people to enjoy the sun safely with some simple tips.

To help keep yourself and your family safe while enjoying the sun, follow these simple steps:

  • Mix it up: When the sun is strong, it’s important to use a combination of shade, clothing and Cancer Research UK recommend at least factor 15 sunscreen with a high star rating to protect yourself – and that’s whether you’re in the UK or abroad
  • Spend time in the shade: Everyone loves to enjoy a bit of sun during the summer but if it’s strong it’s important to spend some time in the shade as well. Use the shadow rule – if your shadow is shorter than you are, then the sun is strong. In the UK this is most likely to be in the summer between11am and 3pm. Make sure you take some breaks in the shade, such as eating your lunch inside, sitting under a parasol or resting in your home or hotel room. If you’re on holiday, you could also visit an indoor museum or gallery to cool off and have a rest from the strong sunshine
  • Don’t get caught out at home: The sun can be just as strong in the UK as abroad so it’s not just when you’re on holiday abroad that you need to think about protecting your skin in the sun. And you don’t need to be sunbathing to get sunburn. Plenty of people get sunburn when out and about playing sport, shopping or gardening
  • Bring a bottle: Keep a handy-sized bottle of sunscreen in your handbag (Cancer Research UK recommend at least SPF15+) so that you’ll always have some to hand for parts of the body you can’t cover up with clothes. That way you won’t get caught out on days when you’re out and about and the sun is strong. Make sure you reapply regularly and use a generous amount
  • Use clothing: wearing a t-shirt and a hat when the sun is strong is really important. There are some really great outfits that not only help keep you protected but keep you cool and look great too. A wide-brimmed hat and kaftan or long-sleeved top or maxi dress will not only keep you covered up but are also the height of summer style!
  • Protect your kids: Young skin is particularly delicate and easily sunburnt. Make sure your children are wearing t-shirts and wide-brimmed hats when out in strong sun and cover any exposed areas with sunscreen.  It’s a good idea to encourage them to alternate their time in the sunshine with breaks in the shade for a game or a cool drink, particularly between 11am and 3pm (in the UK summer) when the sun is usually strongest. If you’re using a buggy, attaching a parasol is a useful way of keeping your children cool and protected from the sunshine
