If you like entertaining this book will still be great just for the use of Coca-Cola, if you are nervous of holding a dinner party you are not alone and strange that the original book was published in 1932. It was part of a Coca-Cola campaign and was free apart from 10 cents to cover post and packing. Wow!
Its advertisement came with a heading Does Entertaining frighten you?
Back then with no microwave and none of the time saving gadgets and ready made sauces, it would have really unnerved, possibly unhinged me even.
Its funny though that entertaining is fashionable again, maybe in an effort to save money in recession hit Britain? I suspect its because food is so celebrated now, we have so many celebrity chefs, TV shows with of course my favourite Come Dine With Me.

I will be dipping in and out of this book for a long time to come, it has good home fare but with a chefs twist and often tip.
Michelin star chef Tom Aikens Minced Beef and Onion Pie with Guinness is so simple and of course unlike 1932 we have ready made pastry and stock.
Slow Roasted leg of lamb is definitely one to try by Julia Parsons, it cooks for 4 hours so you can get ready at leisure, even if friends are late Julia says it just keeps cooking and becoming more tender.
Liz McClarnon winner of Celebrity Masterchef has a wealth of good meals, Spicy Crab Mushrooms, Jerk Chicken Wings all simple yet special.
Each recipe comes with a story or tip, my favourite is Liz saying keep your guest topped up with drinks and make the drinks cold!
Sections include Easy lunches, Saturday nights with Friends, Weekend Brunch or Lunch.
The photography is appealing and has me drooling. Whats really good are the Coca cola ads The book also has the nutritional information for each dish laid out in easy to read format at the back of the book.
The book is a collaboration of respected foodies including; acclaimed Michelin star chef Tom Aikens, ex-Blur bassist and keen cheese enthusiast Alex James, Celebrity Masterchef Winner (2008) Liz McClarnon, and famed food blogger of 'A Slice of Cherry Pie' Julia Parsons.
Harvey Nichols has also created a special hamper inspired by each of the different chefs to celebrate the launch of the book. Each hamper includes: iconic Coca-Cola contour bottles, a copy of 'When you Entertain', a Coca-Cola cool bag and a selection of appetising dry ingredients that are used in many of the respective recipes.
The Coca-Cola hampers, which retail at £45, are available from October at Harvey Nichols Foodmarkets nationwide and online at the Coke Zone website.
