Unibond Humidity Absorber

I was pretty stunned when I read that the average  UK household produces 12 litres of unwanted humidity per day, at first i didnt think it possible but I know that if I don't have the bathroom window open as far as it can go and the extractor on I have a soggy bathroom. This is a very chilly option in winter so when Unibond offered me a Humidity Absorber I glady said yes.

It has sat in the bathroom collecting lots of water and I can believe the figures quoted above I've had a fair amount of liquid collected, its simple to pour away the drops of moisture that are collected. i just tip down the loo.

While they are are on offer ( See below) I am going to grab another  one for downstairs now too.

Excess moisture can lead to condensation, mould, increased allergens in the air and musty-smelling rooms.

Available in two sizes, the Humidity Absorbers can reduce the amount of humidity in a room by up to 30 per cent. The device includes Power Tabs that use 2in1 technology allowing it to absorb the excess humidity in the air and neutralise bad odours.
The Power Tabs convert the humidity in the air into a salty solution that can be seen in as little as 24 hours as droplets collecting in the device’s tank. The tabs last for an average of six to eight weeks and the solution can be easily poured away into a drain or toilet through the specially designed spout.

The large device pack, which includes two 450g Power Tabs, is ideal for 20m2 rooms, such as kitchens and living rooms. The smaller device works for rooms that are up to 10m2 and comes with two 300g Power Tabs.

To stop any leakages, the devices include an anti-spill system and a security clip to make sure that it closes shut tightly. The absorbers are safe to use anywhere in your home and should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
The Humidity Absorbers and Power Tab refills are available from all leading home stores and supermarkets.

To help you to battle humidity easily, UniBond are running a special introductory half-price offer until December 2011 on both the large and small Humidity Absorber packs in a selection of stores.

Owen Potts sauces and condiments review

Everybody could do with a little spice to enliven that salad especially now the cold weather is here, a tasty gravy that brings a midweek meal up a few notches, then with Christmas soon here maybe a new accompaniment for the turkey and ham.

I tried a few of the new Owen Potts range and found a couple of real winners.

Firstly Owen Potts Spanish Dressing a blend of roasted peppers and pimenton (paprika) It has a mild creamy taste, the peppers are the main flavour, its a lovely warm dressing tomatoey, peppery and fine notes of herbs.

It really made a lovely change, I recommend you use fresh peppers in any salad, as for me the dressing really complemented them.
The Cranberry honey sauce has been added to many a ham sarnie in this house of late, the sweet honey and lovely cranberry bite makes a honey roast ham sandwich really special.

On to my favourite product from the range, Owen Potts Chicken Thyme and White Wine Gravy, the idea of it had me anticipating a good gravy, the reality surpassed even my imaginations. The delicate flavour added to my meal we ate while on holiday last week. Not wanting to cook overly elaborate meals as we were relaxing, but still wanting a good tasty meal, I took the gravy with me. so glad I did.

The gravy just needed to be heated gently, then added to my chosen dish of  pan fried chicken breast, baked potato and steamed broccoli, carrot batons, courgettes and green beans.
The gravy lifted the meal into a finer dining experience, it was subtley seasoned, tasted heavenly and its the nicest bought gravy I have tasted to date.

Those on the look-out for a helping hand in the kitchen need look no further, thanks to the launch of a brand new range of top-quality sauces and condiments from Owen Potts – undoubtedly the food industry’s best kept secret!

A genuine culinary expert, Owen has been developing products behind the scenes for years– if you’ve ever bought a gourmet salad dressing, luxury sauce, chutney or condiment, you’ve more than likely already tasted one of Owen’s creations.

With his delicious new quick to cook range, you can add some flair to your cooking, bring a little something extra to everyday meals or introduce a touch of indulgence to special occasion dining – safe in the knowledge you’re in the hands of areal food guru.

The Owen Potts range uses the very best, natural ingredients sourced from around the world, and includes everything from store cupboard essentials such as chicken gravy and steak sauce, to classic recipes with a unique twist, such as a mouth-watering cranberry sauce infused with honey, to a great-tasting mustard sauce with hints of tarragon.

The delicious store cupboard range – with a product suitable for every occasion – will be available in most major supermarkets this winter

Lemsip Survey - Women say “man up” to Man’s Flu

Lemsip survey and new interactive video puts to bed cliché once and for all
To mark the launch of the Lemsip “Man’s Flu Video” on Facebook a new survey reveals 42% of women didn’t believe their husbands or boyfriends were as ill as they claimed, and were instead looking for sympathy and attention, while 31% suspected their ‘crippling man’s flu’ might actually be just a cold.

When women complain of feeling under the weather, 1 in ten men felt that their better halves were just looking for attention, indicating that their own symptoms were far worse than anything experienced by their women and thus more worthy of some affection.

Shockingly, 1 third of these “gentlemen” expect their lady to carry on as normal, contrary to the treatment they expect in the same circumstances. 41% of men stated that their partner does not understand how ill they are and so need to lay the symptoms on more thickly.
By comparison, only 27% of women agreed that their partner understands how they feel when they are ill. Perhaps as a result, 36% of women said they carry on as normal and battle through - in stark contrast to the men, 40% of whom find time to lounge on the sofa, or watch TV or DVDs (34%), or spend the day in bed (31%) at the first sign of a sniffle.

To get involved and fuel the debate further take part in Lemsip’s “Men vs. Women Man’s Flu Challenge” and create your own “Man’s Flu Video” (www.facebook.com/Lemsip). The video, parodying the late
James Brown’s hit “Man’s World”, will pit men against women in the sympathy stakes, with each version being produced and directed towards the opposite sex with the lyrics reworked about Man’s Flu.

To really get your message across, the video can be personalised with the recipient’s photo, name and a message. It is even possible to have James Brown dedicate the song to the individual (by name) during the songs intro!
So ladies, stand up to your man, don’t take them lying down on the sofa…

'Red Bull Racing - An All New High'.

We are just back from a fabulous week away driving around the Wye Valley and taking in some high and winding roads in the Brecon Beacons, made that bit wilder with sheep and Welsh ponies crossing at any given moment.
However I think this pales into the background when you watch this video.

Red Bull Racing driver Neel Jani took the high road, quite literally, when he drove the Red Bull Racing Formula One show car along the 18,380ft-high Khardung La pass in the Ladakh region of India.

  • Description :
Neel Jani drove the F1 Showcar on the world’s highest driveable road, the Khardung-La pass in the Leh region of India at a height of 18,380 feet past the famous Thiksey Monastery, stopped by the Shanti Stupa and encountered the famous rolling roads of South Pullu.

  • This makes Red Bull Racing the first Formula One team to have ever managed to transport, fire-up and drive an F1 car on what is arguably the most challenging terrain on the planet.

Buy British Home-made crumpets with burnt honey butter

Homemade crumpets...mmmmmm all week I have been posting recipes sourced from British ingredients and this has to be the ultimate one.

Country Life celebrates the best of British with recipes from
chef and "Buy British" campaigner Marcus Wareing.

Home-made crumpets with burnt honey butter
    • Makes: 6
    Ingredients
    Crumpets
    • 250ml semi-skimmed or whole milk
    • 200g plain flour
    • 1tsp fast-action dried yeast
    • 1tsp caster or granulated sugar
    • ½tsp table salt
    Burnt Honey Butter
    • 5tbsp clear honey
    • 125g Country Life Unsalted butter at room temperature
    • ½tsp Maldon sea salt
    • 2tbsp vegetable oil
    Method
    1. Mix together all the ingredients for the crumpets in a bowl, cover and leave in a warm place to double in volume for 20 minutes. Whilst proving, make the butter.
    2. Place the honey in a small saucepan over a moderate to high heat. Allow to bubble until a deep golden colour is reached, then remove from the heat and allow to cool.
    3. Beat the Country Life Unsalted butter until fluffy and pale, add the salt then fold in the honey. Put the bowl in the fridge.
    4. When the crumpet dough has doubled in volume, put a large frying pan over a moderate heat, add 1tbsp of the vegetable oil and place three greased egg rings in the pan.
    5. Spoon the crumpet mixture into the rings until two thirds full. Allow the undersides to cook slowly until the mixture has set and the bubbles on top have burst. Repeat with the remaining oil and mixture, then serve with the butter.
