I do not think its just me, but seeing or discussing certain subjects can bring on a very physical response.
Head Lice or nits as a lot of people call them is one such topic, I am literally sat scratching and feeling most unpleasant as I type.
I thankfully am not suffering from what a teacher at primary school once referred to as lodgers, forever making me wary of house guests!!!
Nor have Paige and Conor suffered for a while, fingers crossed.
My first ever experience with head lice was in my pre children and in my 20's, I had just had a first ever perm as well so put the itching down to that, it was horrific to find small creatures have an all nighter and dining on my head. They were from a lovely little boy in the playgroup I helped at.
I rushed straight out and got some heavy duty chemicals a treatment taht promised to execute the crawling beasts instantly, I then spent a miserable smelling like a hazardous area in a nuclear plant.
My poor perm did not survive the aftermath of a fine tooth comb and I was filled with a hatred for the little critters for eternity.
A few perms later and my children were here and grown, now you will notice children love getting close to each other, especially little girls and they have a habit of leaning in to each other, heads touching and then the nits arrive. My daughter spent most of KS1 with hair plaited tightly and pinned up to try and deter unwelcome visitors.
Paige was horrified the first time I discovered she had head lice and I rushed out to arm myself with more weapons of mass destruction. But it was on the way to the bathroom, I read the ingredients and must say I was pretty worried about the effects of the chosen treatment.
I was always careful about skincare, what they ate etc and did not think that something that poisoned head lice could be all that great on a childs head.
However, I needed to get shot of the blighters and so proceeded, but decided on looking for more natural methods.
I did find that constant conditioning and combing worked effectively, but this in no way describes the hours and mind numbingly tedious task of combing and combing and then drowning nits, only to repeat over and over for any hatching for the next fortnight.
Then to rejoice in clear scalps only for her to get them again as not all mums did theier childs hair. Grrrr!
So if I could have had a one off treatment that was a)skin friendly b) attacked the head lice and not the host, I would have paid anything. There is thankfully a treatment now Hedrin Once.
It works by blocking the head lices airways and is kind to skin.
Hedrin explain this better than I and I can thankfully stop scratching.
The UK’s leading head lice brand has launched a new formulation which has been clinically proven to kill 100% of lice and eggs with just one 15 minute treatment
Head lice remedies have traditionally required a second application to kill lice that have hatched since the original treatment - where they were protected in the egg. Hedrin Once Liquid Gel has been shown, in a new clinical trial, to eradicate the infestation of live lice and the un-hatched eggs with a single application. This removes the need for repeat treatments and laborious combing, making the process of managing head lice easier than ever before.
Christine Brown, community nurse and head lice specialist, said: “It is important to deal with head lice promptly to prevent the infestation from spreading further. By only requiring a single 15 minute application, Hedrin Once Liquid Gel significantly shortens the process for treating head lice, making it easier for parents, and increasing the chances of successful treatment.”
Hedrin Once Liquid Gel is a silicone-based, skin-friendly non-pesticide formula that is pleasant for children and easy for parents to use. The active ingredient, dimeticone, kills lice by blocking the opening to their air tubes and disrupting their ability to manage water. Its physical method of killing head lice prevents them developing a resistance – a common problem with traditional pesticide treatments.
Available in Boots and pharmacies nationwide, Hedrin Once is available in a liquid or spray gel format priced from £6.99 for 60ml. Visit http://www.hedrin.co.uk/ for further information.
