Heinz is delighted to announce a new tasty twist on an iconic British favourite - Heinz Salad Cream with Onion and Chives.
I was asked to be one of the first taste testers of the latest offering from Heinz and with fond memories of a now much loved Lemon and Black Pepper I happily agreed to try it.
Not this time on a plain ham sandwich but in a range of exciting recipes and other ingredients Heinz sent me to try.
Eager to try it I started with the Picnic Loaf, this has to be the ultimate sarnie!
Picnic Loaf
Serves 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
1 ciabatta loaf
1 large iceberg lettuce leaf, torn into 4
4 tbsp Heinz salad cream with onion and chives
40g reduced fat Cheddar cheese, sliced
4 slices of wafer thin smoked ham
Small carrot, grated1 tomato, sliced into 4
8 slices of cucumber
I detoured slightly from the recipe as my ciabatta was a bit on the skinny side and so I could not slice off the top, however by the time I had finished layering the filling, it was a monster!
The onion and chives salad cream really lifted the whole sandwich, the taste is great and light and really complemented the filling.

- Cut the top third off the ciabatta to create a lid and base and scoop out the bread from the inside ensuring there is about 1cm left in the bottom.
- Layer up the ingredients in the base of the loaf starting with lettuce, half of the Heinz salad cream with onion and chives, cheese, ham, carrot, the remainder of the Heinz salad cream with onion and chives, followed by tomatoes and cucumber.
- Place the lid back on the ciabatta and wrap tightly in cling wrap and transfer to a baking tray and place another tray on top. Weigh down with a few full jars or cans and place in the fridge for 2 hours to compress slightly.
- Unwrap the loaf and cut into thick slices to serve.Tip: Make up individual rolls in the same way for packed lunches.
