Stand Up To Cancer Live 19th October

CorporatePortal

I am very happy to be featuring this blog, some of my family are currently fighting cancer and speaking for myself,  its a time when friends and relatives can feel quite useless and apart from the wishes and support, there is nothing I feel I can do.
But  I can use my blog to champion this great fundraising venture and hopefully together we can all 'Stand Up To Cancer'

My heart goes out to all patients and families while they face, fight and hopefully survive this disease.

Thanks for listening.

Stars from television, music and film will come together this autumn for “Stand Up To Cancer” - a unique new fundraising campaign on Channel 4. Joining forces with Cancer Research UK, the campaign will build on air over a week of programming, delivering the best of Channel 4’s science and entertainment programming. It will climax on Friday 19th October in a fundraising extravaganza hosted by Davina McCall, Alan Carr and Dr Christian.

Stand Up To Cancer Live 19th October
Bringing together a unique mix of entertainment, science and fundraisinghosts Davina , Alan and Dr Christian will be joined by…..TBC

Alan Carr will front a super-sized chat show with the best green room ever, packed with A-list stars both from the UK and the US. Building on the success of Carr’s recent “Spectacular”, audiences will also be treated to special sketches, VTs and high octane star-studded stunts.

Davina will host a high stakes version of Million Pound Drop, aiming to raise big money for Stand Up To Cancer – building on the show’s successful history of charity editions, which recently saw the recent Celebrity Games specials raise a spectacular £700,000 for 14 different Paralympic and disability charities. The BAFTA award winning show has been a smash hit for Channel 4 – delivering millions of viewers and sold around the world - as viewers engage not only with the gameplay on screen but actively participate by playing online with virtual money to the exact same questions.

And throughout the night, our doctor in residence Dr Christian Jessen will be on hand to explain some of the science behind the incredible new cancer trials we hope to fund, and to introduce stories of those who have been affected by cancer and whose lives depend on new breakthroughs in cancer research.

Throughout the week and night, there will be a plenty of other surprises and a huge range of opportunities for audiences to get involved and donate to the cause, to show their support and raise millions for the fight against cancer.

In the run up to the 19th October, Cancer Research UK will be urging the public to get involved by donating money, fundraising, showing support through social networks or snapping up some Stand Up To Cancer merchandise.

80% of the funds raised will be administered by Cancer Research UK to fund translational research within the UK. The remaining 20% will go to a transatlantic fund (co-administered by Cancer Research UK) to fund collaborative research between UK and US scientists.

Whizz Kid Entertainment will produce the main hub for Channel 4. A large range of other companies are also involved in producing content on the night and during the week, and details will be released shortly.

Tesco are proud to be the lead broadcast sponsor across Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer programme schedule.
