Coast and Beyond

I love Coast all the episodes I have watched never fail to teach me something new, I adore water being on a river or by a sea. I just feel more at peace and home than any other landscape.
So it always is escapism watching the shows.
I was sent a preview of the first 3 episodes.

Coast and beyond starts in Episode 1 in London, moving on to Antwerp by the end.  London did not really fit with my idea of coast but as its built on a tidal waterway. My first new nugget of info is that the London of long ago that was built on its river and became rich as ships from China brought tea, Jamaica brought sugar and amazingly Norway brought ice, this before refrigeration, amazing.

The bigger ships made it impossible for London to continue, but plans are already happening to make a new port London Gateway.
Then onto Margate and the landladies who are very scary and in olden days gusts brought own food and had to be on time for meals or they were in big trouble.

Then onto the Channel at war and through Belgium, Einstein a fascinating look at Bruges and its connection to Britain. Finally to Antwerp.

All this is just part one of a fascinating series, my favourite being episode 2, Cornwall the place I married my husband and our favourite beaches are featured, Bedruthan Steps and Padstow. Bilbo the dog who promotes beach safety in Sennen, oh I could go on and on.

Episode 3 goes Dutch from the finger in the dyke story, tulips to the sandy isles of the Nortern Netherlands where the sea has won the battle for supremacy and the Dutch have decided not to fight.
It means there is a haven for wildlife on a manmade island Rottumerplaat when they did attempt to tame the area.

Each episode is teeming with beautiful sights, fascinating people, animals and  leaves you feeling satisfied and knowledgeable as always  after watching any Coast series.
