funkin Cocktail Mixers Review

Now you may have come here lured by the heady title, like me tempted by the thought of new cocktails, but I wanted to be sober for a few moments longer and find out a little history of the cocktail, that seems to be  more popular since Sex and the City and the Cosmopolitan.

The true creation of a popular cocktail can be traced to the nineteenth century. One early written reference to the term "cocktail" (as a drink based on spirits with other spirits and additives) can be found in an American magazine, The Balance, published in May 1806. It stated that a "Cocktail is a stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters..."

Wow 200 years people have been cocktail drinking!!

The Original Martini

The cocktail's fragmented history begins
in the nineteenth century. One of the first modern cocktails to be named and recognized is the martini. It can be traced back to an 1862 recipe for the Martinez. This American recipe consisted of four parts sweet red vermouth to one part gin, garnished with a cherry. "Professor" Jerry Thomas tended the bar of the old Occidental Hotel in San Francisco and reputedly made the drink for a gold miner on his way to the town of Martinez, which lay forty miles to the east. The recipe for the Martinez in Thomas' 1887 bartender's guide called for Old Tom gin, sweet vermouth, a dash of maraschino and bitters, as well as a slice of lemon and two dashes of gum syrup.

Ok, Ok so now we know our great great grandparents were sipping cocktails way before we had heard of Harvey Wallbangers and no I wont give you any more history on where that cocktail was made and drank.

But most of us know you need several ingredients for some of the mixes, well funkin do this for you.
They have brought a range of cocktail mixers so you just have to provide the alcohol and ice, not too difficult is it?

funkin mixers allow people to make fantastic tasting cocktails in seconds. Simply follow the four basic steps 1) get a glass full of ice 2) add the spirit of your choice 3) add the contents of the funkin mixer and 4) either stir in the glass or shake in a shaker to your hearts’ content.

The great thing about the the ones I received were that they are 100% natural made with fruit puree.

I had the pleasure of a Gin Bramble
which is something totally new to me for a drink and it is delicious.
Its blackberry puree and you just mix with gin, I had Bombay Sapphire as recommended.
Its fruity, tasty and something to settle you nicely into the weekend.
The pouches give quite a large measure and you use it all, in a tall glass with lots of ice.
The next one I had to try was Raspberry Mojito which funkin say is a twist on the funkin mojito, combining Chilian raspberries, mint, lime and sugar to create a perfect blend in a cocktail pouch. This instant Raspberry Mojito cocktail is a sure winner.
It won with me, my first time for liking white rum in a drink ever, the raspberry is a perfect partner for the mint and its my new drink I do believe. Top marks.
I would like to try with vodka next time.
