LONDON MARATHON RUNNERS SUPPORT THE VISION CHARITY

Dwight Yorke to run for blind and visually impaired children

Katie Price forced to pull out due to injury but continues to raise funds

The Vision Charity is delighted to confirm that Dwight Yorke will be running this year’s Virgin London Marathon in support of the charity, raising funds for blind and visually impaired (VI) children.

Dwight is running as part of Team Vision, also due to include Katie Price who has regrettably had to pull out of the race due to a knee injury. Katie’s brother will now take on the challenge by running the Boston Marathon, in an effort to keep the fundraising momentum moving.

Both Katie and Dwight are supporting the Vision Charity due to its work with Dorton House School, attended by son Harvey. They hope to raise awareness of the charity to help other blind and VI children in the UK integrate fully into society. To date, funds donated to Dorton House School have resulted in projects including a specialist playground, gym equipment and mini bus.

Bill Vestey, Chairman of The Vision Charity comments: “We are delighted to have the help of all the runners who have chosen to support The Vision Charity during this year’s Virgin London Marathon. Their contribution will help us to fund projects for blind and visually impaired children, providing equipment, activities and skills to broaden their horizons and engage with the community.”

Running for The Vision Charity can make a real difference to the lives of blind and VI children. Part of Team Vision 2010, marathon runner Danny Rogers had a day to remember: "It was an unbelievable experience, one of the best days of my life. I am pleased to say that I am well over target for the cash raised, so all my pain wasn’t for nothing. I wish everyone at the charity the best and hope the collective effort has raised much needed funds."

Members of the public can also help to raise funds for the charity by signing up to run the marathon next year, or by donating at http://www.visioncharity.co.uk/.
