Millets "Handy" little Devices

The nights are drawing in, next week marks the end of summer. The temperature is definitely starting to drop, Jack Frost will soon be nipping at fingers and toes.

For me it can be a tough time on my hands especially my fingers, I suffer from Raynaud's condition albeit mildly as some sufferers have it in their entire hand, foot nose and ears.

In this condition, the blood supply to the extremities, usually the fingers and toes but sometimes also the ears and nose, is interrupted. During an attack they become first white and dead looking. They may then turn blue and finally red and burning when the blood flow is restored. There may be considerable pain, numbness or tingling.

Now as a child I would just cry and not cope very well, as an adult I have found not much works now. I do  swing my arms around to get the blood flowing on cold days, but basically I just need to keep my hands warm and that halts the symptoms.

I buy handwarmers, usually little throw away heat packs, not long lasting and costly, but it means if we go for a walk in winter, a firework display etc, we do not have to leave early as my hands can be warmed before to prevent an attack.

Paige has it in the tip of one finger, that's how mine originally started, she will need to keep her hands warm forever more now.

So when I was asked to try Millet's Handy little Devices, namely the ALS Handwarmers and the Adventurers Handwarmers I was keen to give them a go.

They have a real eclectic collection, both fun and quirky.

Adorable Adventurers by Peter Storm penguins and owl handwarmers. £4.99 http://www.millets.co.uk/

For little ones hands they are the perfect size, conveniently on keyring chains, they can be clipped on a bag or belt loop as a fun accessory too.
They are suitable for 3 years up, so lovely for after a trip to the park on a cold day.Ideal for housing your keys too.

This detachable hand warmer is simple to use and once the disk is popped the self heating gel becomes activated – great for keeping your hands toasty during those cold winter snaps.

Our favourites have to be the ALS camper van handwarmers, definitely right on trend for older kids, if older kids can include Chris and I too.

£9.99 http://www.millets.co.uk/

They are larger than the keyring version, very vintage looking in appearance and the large size means that one caters for a pair of hands.

They work well, you feel around until you locate the disc, then bend, you hear a definite click.
They heat up quickly and become solid, Paige and Conor loved the warm feeling.
Conor wants to take them for after his running club tonight as they will help while he is waiting to warm up.

Paige had an idea that she will be also able to warm up her walking boots by popping one in each before she leaves camp in the morning. So for her next hike with the school she is going to test  the theory.

A great gift for Christmas for any walker, die hard football team fan, anybody with an outdoor job.

These pretty rose print handwarmers £9.99 are perfect for a present for your girlfriend, wife, mum, she can use while waiting for the car to heat up on frosty winter mornings.

A nice bonus is that they are reusable, this warmed the thrifty parts of me, paying out a few pounds for disposable ones is not good for pocket or planet!

After you have used the handwarmers wrap in a cloth then place  into boiling water, removing the keyring on the Adventurer versions, boil for 10-15 minutes until the crystals have dissolved, this will turn the liquid clear, so once it has cooled it’s ready to use again.

Handy eh??
