Make More of Squashes Review

Make More of Squashes
by Patricia Harbottle, Peter Chadwick and Elisabeth Winkler

I was fascinated with this book and learnt that the squash family includes obvious ones like pumpkins and butternut squash, but did you know it also has cucumber, courgette and melon!!
I sort have should have known with the courgettes we grew this year the seeds looked familiar and the flowers reminded me of squash and they were the impressive size you may have seen in pumpkin patches.

So the book becomes instantly more enjoyable as the range just widened for me.
Lots of fabulous tips on growing them and we had four plants last year, one had only female flowers so we did not get any fruit, now thanks to this book I have learned how to hand pollinate.

The recipes are gorgeous Crown Roast Lamb with Courgette Stuffing, Sqaush and Bacon Pie, Pumpkin and Blood Orange Tart are just some of 50 superb makes!

**You can win this book and its partner along with veg by James McIntosh  (Review here) stay tuned. For a fab deal to buy both £8.99 books for £10 see below **

The series contains horticultural advice and recipes for growing and cooking your own vegetables: this book focuses on pumpkins, marrows and squashes.

This book is simple, fun, interesting and straightforward. It puts vegetables right at the heart of food, from growing them to cooking them, to provide fabulously tasty and interesting vegetable-based dishes for all the family.

The first book in the series, Make More of Beans and Peas, is also available now. You can read more about it here
