I so miss Laurel and Hardy on the TV, what happened to them being shown ad infinitum? I watched them with my Grandad curled up on his kee, with his big round belly and trousers with braces I somehow identified him with Oliver Hardy though he was never so daft but always as jolly.
Through the years I continued to watch them and always with fondness,so too did my twin toddlers who despite loving Pingu and Tellytubbies were enthralled by the hapless duo and chuckled as much as me.
This was the first time I truly saw a show that could own the word timeless. Whatever the generation and indeed whichever age Stan and Ollie still have the power to entertain and capture us with their slapstick and hilarious calamities.
So though they are not shown on TV any longer, here is a chance to own the fun forever on DVD. Pegasus Entertainment have picked four classics and they are priceless.
My favourite is the first one March of the Wooden Soldiers with lots of silliness and confusion and silly one liners
Ollie Dee (Hardy) "Stannie’s so upset he isn’t even going to the wedding. You’re upset aren’t you Stannie?"
Stannie Dum (Laurel) "Upset? I'm housebroken!"
and
Ollie Dee "So far so good!"
Stannie Dum "It wasn’t so far. We just came across the street."
Out soon

Laurel and Hardy star as Stannie Dum and Ollie Dee in this classic comedy musical set in the fairytale world of Toyland. When the unscrupulous Silas Barnaby threatens to evict Mother Widow Peep from her home, the boys come to her rescue...or at least they would have if they'd not been fired from the toy factory for getting Santa Claus's order wrong by making 100 six foot soldiers instead of 600 one foot soldiers! But when Barnaby and his evil Bogeymen terrorise Toyland, an army of wooden soldiers is just what the town needs to rid themselves of his wickedness once and for all.
