365 Everyday Games and Pastimes Review

A wonderful, timeless compendium of enjoyment and delight for all the family

Something Fun for Everyone!

I was drawn to this book by the blurb, as you know from my Boggle review we are a family who love games, from little I made a conscious effort to introduce my two to fun simple games such as cards, I Spy, we used to do a spot the object game in the car to pass the time on a long journey, it started before they could read with Chris drawing pictures of the items to spot, then progressing.

We go to my cousins at Christmas and play old time classics such as Charades, Who Am I etc, so the 365 Everyday Games and Pastimes is just what this family wants.

Jam-packed with games and activities for all ages, this is a book to dip into at any day of any season, and a fun-packed compendium to savour for years to come.

It is divided into sections  starting with Children's Party Games, Dinner Party Games Outdoor Games  down to Magic and Word Games.
Just flicking I see games I have played before and ones that evoke such great memories.

Outdoor games has a section on skipping rhymes and it was lovely to see forgotten verse and remember school friends.
My two still play Capture The Castle although theirs has been adapted from the one in the book.
They play with a huge crowd and all age ranges and its played in our streets each summer.

This book is delightful for stirring up many happy memories and revisiting old games, it also has given us new games to play and it will be well thumbed over the years.

I must add ours to make 366 games as the book  hasn't got our family favourite which is called In My Pants, this is where you say a song title and follow it by the words In My Pants. Now my two are older it can have some ruder outcomes but its an hilarious game.
I will leave you with

I want to Break Free..in my pants!
The Flood in my pants

Whether it’s Charades at Christmas or Murder in the Dark at New Year, Mad Scientist at Halloween, or simply a wealth of ideas for things to play at children’s birthday parties, here are winning games for all occasions.

Britain has a long tradition of truly wonderful pastimes, which are a welcome and inexpensive alternative to round-the-clock ‘digitainment’ and Martin and Simon Toseland’s comprehensive collection is a timely aide memoire and indispensable guide.

From party games, word games, memory games, to classic card and dice games… traditional marbles and ball games, to games for rainy days and magic tricks; games to play in the park, at the beach, in the car or even in the kitchen – this beautifully illustrated, irresistible book has something for everyone, every day of the year.
