Findus Fresher Taste Review

Happy days are when I can grab something from the freezer if I have not got a lot of time and family are in and out just stopping to eat.
I do have a good store of homemade stews, pasta sauces and quiches, but even those need veg, salad, potatoes preparing and cooking, so when I was asked to review the new Findus Fresher Taste range, I gladly agreed.

Tonight is one of those nights where Paige and Conor are in from school revising, then both out to  school activities.
I have a job to get out to and Chris on his way in, then dropping and collecting all of us.
We like to eat together so I can add all the meals to cook in a conventional oven for 30 minutes. If in the future we are eating seperately, the microwave takes 7 and 1/2 minutes in my 850 watt.

Potatoes and vegetables for the salmon meal

Vegetables accompanying the Roast Chicken meal.

The vegetables and potatoes are in a separate pouch to serve with the main dish, in mine and the children's case, we had the roasted chicken in a sun dried tomato dressing.
The vegetables look fresh and appetising not dissimilar to when I freeze my own veg for a Mediterranean dish when I cook lemon chicken.
They do as Findus mention below look like the roastabag type meals. You can see what you are about to cook and its reassuring.

I find that with some ready meals they barely resemble the picture on the front even uncooked. These are attractive straight from the box.

Chris had the salmon, again the vegetables look appealing.

I did as I said  do them in the oven as we were all dining together. I found the potato and vegetable pouches needed longer than stated on the packet. They were still a little hard after the stated requirement. I would imagine the microwave cooks it perfectly.

Taste Test, really tasty, fresh still good looking, the chicken was tender, succulent, I really liked the sauce and the vegetables taste home cooked.

Roasted Chicken

Chris said the salmon was cooked to perfection, flaked nicely and so flavoursome.

Paige and Conor hardly spoke which is proof enough a meal is good.
We all would have eaten more, which is a good thing.
Recommended for any busy family of people who want a flavoursome meal without have to prepare yourself.

The new Fresher Taste range has been developed by a team of passionate and experienced chefs, and consists of four, tantalising, single-serve recipes:

1. Tender Chicken Breast in a vintage cheddar and bacon sauce with a side of buttery broccoli, green beans and peas

2. Flaky Cod fillet in a creamy mornay sauce with a side of potatoes, broccoli, carrots and parsnips

3. Roasted Chicken Breast in a sun dried tomato dressing with a side of potatoes, peppers and courgettes

4. Wild Pacific Pink Salmon in a creamy white wine and asparagus sauce with a side of potatoes, beans, carrots and peas

Each recipe uses only premium quality produce including prime, skinless chicken breast fillet and fish fillet. Every ingredient is meticulously sourced to capture it in season ensuring the perfect flavour and texture is delivered at every meal time.

Unlike conventional methods - including plastic wrapping and plastic containers - each product is sealed in a unique Flavour-Lock PouchTM and is vacuum-packed to remove air and extend the life of the food beyond other frozen, bagged equivalents. The see-through packaging also acts like a mini roasting bag, retaining more of the natural moisture and flavours of the dish from the moment it is frozen to the time it is served up on a plate.

Findus Fresher Taste range has been developed for people who enjoy great tasting, premium quality food but don’t always have the ingredients, motivation or energy to cook it from scratch. Each meal is designed to be cooked straight from frozen, either in the microwave (approx 8 ½ minutes) or the oven (30 minutes). The vegetable side dishes are packaged in a separate pouch to the meat/fish to allow for different cooking times and avoid overcooking.

The range is available in major retailers including Tesco, ASDA, Morrison, Waitrose and Co-op at an MRSP of £3.99.
